Join Our Mailing List

Dear Coalition Members,

Four times a year we invite you and all others interested in suicide prevention to gather for networking and information that will move us closer to our goal of reducing suicide.  Please come meet with others from around the state on August 20th who are working on this problem.  Our united efforts really do make a difference!

Find out what the Coalition has been working on and what we see as the greatest needs.  Find out how your Coalition Executive Director and Board Members represent you at our Legislature, and in our communities throughout the state.  And most importantly, come tell us the needs in your community and find out how you can join the collective effort.

We have invited several speakers for the meeting on August 20th, in Albuquerque.

Michelle Linn-Gust, Ph.D., internationally known speaker and author on suicide survivors, will discuss what is happening on the national and international scene in suicide prevention.

Board Member,
Laura Rowland, will report on the Suicide Preventon Conference held recently in Denver and will also inform us about the Second Wind Foundation.

Deb Luckett, who works with youth programs at the New Mexico Suicide Intervention Project will tell us about what the Project is doing and how NMSIP's programs may be able to help you.

Thank you for all you do for suicide prevention.  We hope to see you on August 20th!  And PLEASE pass this invitation on to an interested colleague or friend.  Forward to a Friend

Suicide Prevention Week: September 7 through 13

Hands and candleSuicide Prevention Week is a national event to raise awareness about suicide and suicidal behaviors and to celebrate the efforts of all who are working to prevent suicide.
This year, National Suicide Prevention Week, sponsored by the American Association of Suicidology (AAS), will occur September 7th through 13th.

This year's theme celebrates the amazing diversity of people working together as partners to help our fellow human beings, and it challenges us all to continue our assiduous efforts to advance suicide prevention and practice as we increase our evidence-based foundations. Since suicide is such a complex and multi-dimensional problem, collaboration is the key in this endeavor. With collaborative partnership, compassion, solid research, hard work and cooperation, we can and will indeed save lives.

Beginning in 2004, Suicide Prevention Week takes place in September in order to synchronize with World Suicide Prevention Day hosted by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).
World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10, 2005, represents a call for action and involvement by all governments and organizations worldwide to contribute to the cause of suicide awareness and prevention through activities, events, conferences and campaigns in each country.
